Be careful while you are driving1

April 23, 2014
This Toyota Prius hit a parked car at highway speeds. Fortunately, the car collapsed as it was designed and Bruce was ok. Today's modern cars are designed to disperse energy around the passenger compartment to protect the occupents in the event of a collision. Notice how the hood folded up rather than penetrate through the windshield; the fender aprons, frame rail, roof and A pillar absorbed alot of the collision energy. The air bags (Supplement Restraint System SRS) deployed including the side curtains and knee bolster but the passenger seat was un-occupied so the SRS did not deploy. The owner's briefcase was found up behind the dash wedged between the dash and the cowl panel. Remember, that briefcase was traveling at 70MPH when the car stopped.
